The gospel of all mankind! Injected once every two months, scientists found a long-acting agent to prevent AIDS

AIDS is a very harmful infectious disease, caused by AIDS virus (HIV) infection. HIV targets the most important CD4T lymphocytes in the human immune system as its main target, destroying them in large quantities, causing the body to lose its immune function.

Moreover, due to the fact that HIV is a retrovirus and the lack of correction and repair functions of retroenzymes, the frequency of HIV mutation is very high. For this reason, until the 21st century, there was no specific treatment for HIV. Drugs used to treat HIV infection can only control virus replication, but cannot completely eliminate the virus.

Therefore, researchers are focusing on developing a safe and effective HIV vaccine. Recently, researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, developed a vaccine called Cabotegravir, which is injected once every two months. It seems that it is expected to become a good prescription for long-term prevention of AIDS.

The relevant research results were published in the journal NEJM under the title Cabotegravir for HIV Prevention in Cisgender Men and Transgender Women.

DOI: 10.1056/NEJMoa2101016

A total of 4566 AIDS high-risk subjects were included in the clinical study. They were divided into two groups to compare the safety and effectiveness of Cabotegravir injection once every two months and oral TDF-FTC in preventing AIDS among men who have sex with men and transgender women who have sex with men. The research results show that long-term injection of Cabotegravir is better than daily oral TDF-FTC in preventing high-risk groups from AIDS infection.

Although we still haven't found a specific drug, AIDS has become controllable from a deadly disease. It is reported that the vaccine was developed by ViiV Healthcare, a global HIV professional company controlled by GSK, and it is expected that this vaccine will make a big step forward in the fight against AIDS virus!
