The University of Chicago School of Medicine has built the city's first independent cancer hospital, focusing on patients, making it a community center for cancer prevention, screening, and diagnosis.
This new cancer hospital will integrate the nursing resources of UChicago Medicine Hyde Park campus, including:
1. There are 80 inpatient beds, including 64 beds for internal medicine surgery and 16 beds for intensive care unit
2. 90 consultation and outpatient examination rooms
A specialized rapid assessment/emergency care clinic to protect immunocompromised tumor patients from prolonged visits to the emergency room
4. Private room infusion therapy grouped by cancer type
5. Cancer imaging kit, equipped with two MRI, two CT scanners, two ultrasound, two operating rooms with mobile C-arm and fluorescence testing, and an X-ray machine
6. Multidisciplinary Breast Center
7. Dedicated clinical trial space to simplify the process of accessing the latest research
8. A center dedicated to prevention, detection, treatment, and survival, providing complementary therapy and stress relief, community education, and welfare support

UChicago Medicine's project proposal provides more opportunities and dedicated space for the treatment and management of cancer throughout its life cycle - from pre diagnosis, cancer treatment, and remission.
