Recently, according to Agence France-Presse, a medical survey released by the French Public Health Bureau showed that poor people and rich people suffer from different diseases. According to research, the poor are more likely to suffer from cancers in the mouth, throat, stomach, liver, and other parts, while the rich are more likely to suffer from prostate and ovarian cancer. EVO Healthcare understands that this survey was conducted among nearly 190000 cancer patients between 2006 and 2009.
The research institute also said that if the gap between rich and poor gradually narrowed, it could have reduced the number of cancer patients by 15000. Research results from the French Public Health Agency (Sant é Publice France) show that vulnerable men in France are 30.1% more likely to develop throat cancer than wealthy men, 26.6% more likely to develop oral cancer, and 19.9% more likely to develop lung cancer. Vulnerable women have a 22.7% higher risk of oral cancer than wealthy women, and a 21.1% higher risk of cervical cancer. In addition, vulnerable groups are more likely to suffer from liver cancer, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, and bladder cancer; The rich have a higher risk of melanoma, prostate cancer, testicular cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer than the disadvantaged. The study only makes statistics on the symptoms, and cannot find the true cause.
"Le Figaro" quoted Josephine Bryere, a researcher at the French National Institutes of Health and Medicine (Inserm), as explaining that risk factors brought about by socio-economic conditions include smoking, occupational injury, and environmental pollution, which may be the cause of different cancers among vulnerable and wealthy groups.
EVO Healthcare understands that research believes that political decision-making should reduce health issues caused by social inequality, such as education, urban development, transportation, and employment. The French Ministry of Health said that in France, at least 40% of cancers can be avoided as long as smoking and drinking are controlled, exercise is sufficient, eat less salted foods such as meat and sausage ham, and eat more vegetables and fruits.
