Introduction to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)

UPMC, located in Pittsburgh, was officially established in 1893. Its predecessor was Louise Lyle Hospital, which was incorporated into the University of Pittsburgh in 1927. After more than a decade of development, UPMC transformed from a community hospital to an academic hospital.

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences of UPMC Hospital is also one of the most important departments in the country funded by the National Institutes of Health.
